A word from Dr. Slough

I practiced outpatient medicine for 15 years as an employee of various healthcare conglomerates. I became frustrated as I struggled to give my patients the time and attention that I felt was necessary. Patients became frustrated by decreased access to their physician in a jungle of phone trees, emails, and surveys.

Primary care has become a volume business driven by economics. While the personal relationship is the foundation of primary care, our current healthcare system imposes numerous burdens on patients and physicians. It often feels like the purpose of an office visit is to satisfy a variety of rule makers and regulators and has very little to do with the patient. The patients and physicians become an afterthought in a system that keeps ploughing ahead.

My own family physician, now retired like many of his generation, has inspired my idealized view of what medicine can be. He listened, considered, and advised patients with an authenticity that direct primary care strives to allow. Breaking from the system, even a very broken system, is challenging, but it’s also the only way to offer the personalized care patients deserve.

I’m a West Chester, OH native and a proud graduate of Lakota East. I earned a BS in Biology from the University of Cincinnati in 2003, graduated from The University of Toledo School of Medicine in 2007, and completed residency at Bethesda Family Medicine in 2010. Locals, teachers, and classmates knew me as Tess O’Brien. It’s been my privilege to practice in an area that significantly contributed to my education and personal development. My husband, several children, and I are proud to call this area home!

I look forward to meeting with you soon to demonstrate the Freedom Medical MD advantage.
